About the artist

Rafa Gomes

Pay no attention to what the critics say; no statue has ever been erected to a critic.—Jean Sibelius

Rafa Gomes

Rafael da Silva Gomes comes from Fortaleza in the north-east of Brazil. His inspiration stems from his travels, which often take him to the limit of his comfort zone, and music. The latter especially is reflected in his series “Coleção Toys”, a lively homage to icons of music, art and pop culture. With meticulous precision, his miniatures take on the faces of famous personalities of past and present—from Madonna to Monroe, Willy Wonka to Walter White. By transforming big names into small figures, he casts a critical eye over our very notion of fame.
