Fancy feathers

Flamingos are vain birds. They spend up to 30 percent of their day pampering themselves, cleaning their feathers with an oil they produce in a special gland. With the help of their beak, they spread it all over their majestic cloak of feathers to achieve a glossy coat that really makes them shine. When it comes down to it, we all have a little flamingo inside of us: we take pride in our appearance. But this art of self-presentation extends to our homes too.

Flirtatious flamenco

Flamingos are no stranger to the bird boogie—and they can certainly strut their stuff and out-dance any species on the planet. Like kings and queens of nature’s ballroom, they majestically sashay across the dancefloor of the wilderness. Often performing their mating display in groups, these birds flamenco across lagoons in search of partners in what can only be described as a true flamingo art form.

Fantabulous families

When the dancing day is done, flamingos just wanna have young. After fancily prancing around wetlands and pairing up, both mothers and fathers-to-be get to work on their nest together as a team, which they construct with care out of mud, stones, and their own beautiful feathers. In a progressive, gender-equal gesture, both mummy and daddy flamingo even take it in turns to sit on the egg while they await the arrival of their newborn. Take a feather out of their book and decorate your own nest with flamingo prints.
